6 Top Australian Chardonnays: Part 2
2018 Tolpuddle Chardonnay, Tasmania
Restraint, freshness and full of spice. There is a nashi pear seam through this, perhaps due to warmer year in Tasmania – the acidity is bright and clean, this really rests on the back palate.. Could be modern Burgundy. Gorgeous.

2018 Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay, Margaret River
This is restraint, saline, finesse, purity… Toasted crushed nut – cashew and almond. There is preserved lemon, a salty seam of spice and loads of power. Damn near perfect. Exciting too.
(I feautured this wine as Wine of the Week in my weekly email, to read that review click here)

2018 Pierro Chardonnay, Margaret River
Power, depth and concentration. This is satisfaction personified. There is a spicy/solids character in there – flint – cap gun – etc – etc – matchstick yes. This is all about density and intensity.
–
2017 Giaconda Chardonnay, Beechworth VIC
Speaking of matchstick/struck match… salted lemon, grilled stone fruit, ginger, brine, orange peel… depth and length of flavour. Jeez. Yes.
–
2017 Voyager Estate MJW Chardonnay, Margaret River
Creamy, salty, full, rich… densely satisfying. Beautiful. Graceful.

2017 Woodlands Chloe Chardonnay, Margaret River
(second bottle)
Rich, redolent with yellow stone fruit, ripe fruit flavours overlaid by intense spice and toasted nuts. This is a powerhouse – definitely decant.
