Corymbia Chenin and Red Blend

2018 Corymbia Tempranillo, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Upper Swan WA

58% Tempranillo, 30% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon

Effortlessly bright on the nose, flashes of hot pink radiate onto the page as I write.  Vibrant raspberry, pomegranate and red liquorice mingles with touches of sage and Thai basil.  It explodes out of the glass.  Rivulets of black plum, menthol, blackberry and white pepper course over the palate.  The tannins are fine and ripe and ask to be chewed.  This is silky and plush, but there is enough grip through the back palate to give real interest and feeling.  All varieties were hand-picked from the family vineyard and co-fermented, the berries were individually sorted prior to carbonic maceration (hence the bright exuberance), the wine underwent wild ferment in French oak after that. Delicious, and a massive yes from me.  95+/100

2019 Corymbia Chenin Blanc, Upper Swan WA

100% Chenin Blanc

Having been to the vineyard and stood beneath the towering Corymbia tree, it’s difficult to seperate the experience on that hot, 37C summer’s morning, with the wine in the glass in front of me, now.  At once vibrant, aromatic (redolent with lime blossom, Geraldton wax flower, green apple, white pepper and an abundance of ripe summertime pears) and textural, this is a super exciting new-world Chenin… and bring that right on. Hand picked, whole bunch, a portion saw French oak (older).  This is salty, layered, pristine and bright.  So saying, there’s no way any of it is going to be put away into the back of the wine fridge – but I dare say if it was, it would last an age.   95/100

A note on the brilliant labels.  Each wine sports a different label, the detail is based on vineyard data from its specific growing season.  365 striations on the ring, each one marking a day in the year.  Picking days are indicated in the red lines.  Rain events.  Heat spikes.  It’s all in there.
