Mauro Veglio Barolo 2015

2015 Mauro Veglio Barolo DOCG

A friend describes the wines of Mauro Veglio to be ‘halfway to modern, in style’.  I’d say they are modern.  The aromatics are almost always led by fruit and perfume, the wines are open and approachable on the palate and they have this beguiling red fruit thing going on.  Anyway… this 2015.  Perfumed, chinotto, orange rind, raspberry, red liquorice.  Beautiful style with power and weight.  It feels almost simple in its expression of Barolo – not a bad thing – utterly delicious.

92/100

I’ve been buying Mauro Veglio Barolos (by the single bottle ish) each year since 2010 and I love them.   The single vineyard wines (Castelletto, Gattera, Arborina, Rocche dell’Annunziata) are where I go for rumbling depth and darkness of fruit.  Both styles have their place.
